Arches Watercolor Paper - Rough

With a Rough sheet, the paper pulp is not pressed at all after forming, preserving all of the texture that naturally occurs during paper production. These are rugged sheets, having an agressive texture that is beautiful and artistic even before being painted upon.

Rough watercolor paper is an excellent choice for a loose, broad painting technique, as the texture will break up your brush strokes and accent your style. Produces splendid results with landscapes, abstract art, thick paint applications and drawing media, such as crayon and charcoal. For all of it's rugged texture, Arches Rough will still capture a surprising amount of fine detail.

Offered in two different weights - 140lb. paper is quite thick and sturdy, resisting warping and buckling when wet, especially when the paper is taped or stretched. It is the most common sheet used. 300lb. sheets are super-thick, almost like a thin cardboard. You can paint directly on them with no drawing board, as they will not ripple when paint is applied. Recommended for larger pieces and for traveling.
