Arches Watercolor Paper - Cold Pressed

After the paper pulp has been formed into sheets, it is gently pressed with unheated rollers, leaving a slight, random texture and creating the legendary Arches Cold Pressed surface.

Cold pressed paper is most often chosen for watercolor paintings, as it can retain fine detail, yet has enough texture to break up your brushstrokes, creating the characteristic "sparkle" of a watercolor. Handling everything from soft, blurry transitions, to aggressive textured brushwork and intricate detail, this paper is a workhorse.

Offered in two different weights - 140lb. paper is quite thick and sturdy, resisting warping and buckling when wet, especially when the paper is taped or stretched. It is the most common sheet used. 300lb. sheets are super-thick, almost like a thin cardboard. You can paint directly on them with no drawing board, as they will not ripple when paint is applied. Recommended for larger pieces and for traveling.
