GENERAL QUESTIONS - TECHNICAL
QUESTIONS - SERVICE PROVIDERS
I am interested
in becoming an Oak Creek Printworks Artist. What do I do first?
Review the
application
and agreement and return it with your digital files.
Our
panel of artists will review the work and select images that
lend themselves to sets, so themed work is ideal. The unifying
factor can be a particular artistic style or subject matter.
Keep in mind that our product
line is based on sets of greeting cards, notecards, bookmarks
and small matted reproductions.
How should I submit my artwork?
We prefer high resolution
digital files on CD, but we can accept photos or slides. If
you have original artwork, we can recommend a number of service
providers that will convert your original artwork and burn
a CD.
How many files should I submit
for consideration to become an Oak Creek Artist?
We
like to start our Artists with 8-12 images, which generally
translates into 2-3 card sets with 4 different images in each
set. Submit a portfolio of images between 20-40 images and
our panel of artists will make their choices from your portfolio.
What happens to the images
you do not choose?
We eliminate
the unchosen images from the agreement and claim no future
publication privileges without engaging in a new agreement.
If Oak Creek Printworks chooses
an image, can I continue to sell the image privately?
By
giving Oak Creek Printworks permission to print and sell your
artwork in our product line, you are not relinquishing your
copyright or any rights you have as the originating artist
and you can sell the image privately.
Can I buy my artwork as notecards,
greeting cards, bookmarks or matted prints from Oak Creek
Printworks?
All Oak Creek Printworks
Artists can purchase unpackaged notecards, greeting cards,
bookmarks and matted prints at a 50% discount. Packaging supplies
can be purchased for 20% off our retail price.
Can I resell the artwork I
purchase from Oak Creek Printworks?
Provided
you hold a valid resellers certificate, Oak Creek Printworks
Artists can become authorized resellers of the entire Oak
Creek Printworks product line.
What if I don't want to purchase
the product outright? Can I still resell the Oak Creek Printworks
product?
Sales representatives
can make 15%-25% sales commission by reselling the Oak Creek
Printworks product line.
How much money can I earn in
return for allowing Oak Creek Printworks to reproduce and
sell my artwork as notecards, greeting cards and matted prints?
As
an Oak Creek Printworks Artist, you will earn royalties of
5% of the sales price. There will be additional sales opportunities
if you participate in art shows sponsored by Oak Creek Printworks.
Here Artists will have the opportunity to exhibit work that
is not part of the Oak Creek Printworks product line. Oak
Creek Printworks does not ask for a commission on work sold
through sponsored art shows, so if you sell a painting for
$500, you get $500. Our first show is scheduled for November,
2003 in Thousand Oaks, CA.
Five percent
doesn't seem like much money? What should I let Oak Creek
Printworks make 95% of the sales price?
Oak
Creek Printworks is focused on our Artists. By selling your
artwork on our product line online and in stores, boutiques,
galleries and private parties, Oak Creek Printworks acts as
your marketing agent. We absorb the expense of marketing materials,
advertising and printing. We get your work and your name in
the public eye. We give our Artists full credit for the original
artwork and publish their contact information, facilitating
direct contact with customers for sales of original and commissioned
artwork, which has the potential of much greater income for
the Artist.
Does Oak
Creek Printworks take a sales commission on sales outside
of their product line?
For
outside sales, we ask for no money. We simply ask our Artists
to report income generated from sales stemming from Oak Creek
Printworks referrals.
I'd like
to have something that shows that I am an Oak Creek Printworks
Artist. Do you have any provisions for that?
All
Oak Creek Printworks Artists get 100 free full color business
cards with the information of their choice printed on the
back with black ink.
I've been
told I need a website. Can Oak Creek Printworks help me?
We
will build you a gallery page where you can display your portfolio,
a photo of you and your biography. The artwork in your portfolio
can consist of up to 20 thumbnail images of your choice, each
with its own pop-up window, giving you 21-page website with
no hosting fees. Your gallery is separate from your work in
the Oak Creek Printworks product line and can have a link
to another website of your choice.
What if
I already have my own website and shopping cart? Will Oak
Creek Printworks link to my site?
We
will link to any site you choose from your gallery page (no
porn sites, please:).
Can you
guarantee traffic on the Oak Creek Printworks website?
We
make regular submissions to search engines, both for the Oak
Creek Printworks website and for our Artist's portfolios.
We track statistics and will share them with our Artists on
their request. While there are 1000s of sites that list greeting
cards and notecards, we are proud to say that Google and Yahoo
rank our searches for notecard bags #1 and #2 driving consistent
traffic to our site.
What if
I decide I no longer want to participate as an Oak Creek Printworks
Artist?
Ninety days written
notice is required prior to cancellation of the License Agreement
with Oak Creek Printworks.
Are Oak
Creek Printworks products archival?
We
currently print using a Minolta CF2002 digital color laser
printer. The 2002 employs laser technology using polymer based
toners. To date, no one can accurately predict the longevity
of the latest generation of polymer toner products, but our
test show prints to have greater stability than traditional
lithographic prints. Having left test prints exposed to sunlight
for months, we have seen no fading or deterioration of the
toners.
Why don't
you use inkjet printers and archival pigments?
While the cost of the inkjet printer
is low, the papers and pigments are very pricey. Plus, inkjets
are notoriously slow. These factors would drive the price
of our cards out of reach, not to mention that the pigments
are too delicate for the handling and abuse that a greeting
card would endure.
